The DCI Steve Burt Mysteries Series
Steve Burt's career started when he went to Sandhurst and won the Sword of Honour as the best cadet of the year. He was commissioned into the Parachute Regiment and by the age of 24 he was an acting Captain. His career was on an upward path until he succombed to the charms of a senior officer's wife. Despite being warned off by his colleagues the senior officer confronted him which ended with an altercation and Steve being to resign his commission rather than being cashiered for assaulting a senior officer. After leaving the army he took a series of menial jobs until he joined the Metropolitan Police Force as a uniformed constable. His police career, as with his army career blossomed, although he became known as a detective who didn't always follow the rules but got results. Unfortunately history repeated itself and Detective Inspector Burt once more assaulted a senior officer which resulted in his suspension and potential dismissal from the Metropolitan Police for three months.
During this period Steve let himself go and became a regular at his local hostelry. When he received a phone call asking him to appear at the Human Resources Department at New Scotland Yard things were at a very low ebb.
At his final interview Steve was astonished to find that his ex-boss had decided to keep him on. He was assigned on a temporary basis to a new unit called Special Resolutions. It was explained that it was not intended that this unit would exist for more than six months and then the officers in this unit would be made redundant in order to show the politicians that the Metropolitan police could make budget savings. After a series of unexpected events Steve's Special Resolutions Unit was incorporated into the main Metropolitan Police hierarchy and Steve continued his career as a Detective Chief Inspector.
